    Re: 1966 Trico wiper blades

Stephen - I'm assuming you are asking about the configuration of the wiper blade holders. As far as the ANCO wiper blade holders (O.E. BY ANCO) are concerned, the configuration of the top would be the inverted "V" configuration for the entire 1966 production year. The change in the configuration of the TRICO wiper blade holder from the "flat" configuration to the inverted "V" configuration as best we have been able to determine was in the March/April 1966 time frame. The 1966 TIM&JG reads "Late cars starting in April 1966 had the peaked top surface like 1967 production that continues throughout the production year." Check the 1966 TIMJG for additional information.

As far as judging, I'm assuming you want something that will not receive a deduction in judging & currently, as far as I know, no one makes such a "repro"

      Re: 1966 Trico wiper blades

      Pete - thanks

was there any rhyme or reason why one car might receive Anco blade holders while another could receive Trico?

it appears that for a late run car (July), that regardless of Anco or Trico, it will be the inverted "V" configuration?

      thanks

Stephen - Luck of the draw as to what was in the wiper blade assembly bin when it came time to install them on the assembly line. And yes, for a late (July 66) car, either the ANCO or TRICO wiper blades would have had the holders with the inverted "V" shape top. Interestingly, I have two Corvettes, a 66 S/N 25305 & a 67, S/N 1476, that when I purchased them still had the ANCO (O.E. BY ANCO) wiper blade holders on them. Pete

On a very late '66 (July 25 1967 build date), would the factory have used 3888297/3888298 wiper arms or 3915861/3915862 wiper arms?

when did that change take place on the assembly line?

          thanks

The wiper arm part number change date is shown in my 1967 Corvette AIM (UPC 1 ASM, sheet D3) and was on 11-9-66. One might assume that the actual assembly line change took place sometime after Nov. 9, 1966, but.................. maybe not.

AIM change would normally lag the actual part change not the other way around.

                Re: 1966 Trico wiper blades

Stephen - I do not see any difference in the wiper arms on our late 66 Corvette (June 1966) & our early 1967 Corvette (Sept 1967). It is also interesting that while there is a part number change called out in the 1967 AIM on 11/9/66 as others have mentioned; the 1967 TIM&JG does not reference any difference or change in the judging criteria of the wiper arms because of this part number change. I do know that the GM Service Part arms with p/ns 3915861-2 that have been available from the Chevrolet Parts Department that I have seen have had a duller brushed finish than the original brushed finish wiper arms that I have observed on 1966 & 1967 Corvettes along with changes in the spring covers. Another interesting note is that the Chevrolet Parts History, Jan. 1, 1965 thru Jan. 1, 1973, shows the following "Parts Substituted":

                3888297 USE 03915861 11-67
                3888298 USE 03915862 10-67

Who says working on old cars isn't interesting.
