    '56 door window service

What is the proper order of parts removal in order to get the door window out of the door itself?? I've managed to disengage the window from the regulator guide rail, but there's a roller still retained in the front guide assembly and that's keeping me from removing the window from the door.

I also notice that the front window guide which is installed in the post assembly is partially rivetted in place (3) according to the assembly manual. I hope that this guide comes out attached to the post when the post is removed from the door.

    tnx, Don

you have to remove the post assembly before the glass/frame will come out. the front roller is in a track that will disassociate from the post itself. good luck.mike

Thanks, Mike. According to what I see in the assembly manual, there's some sort of reinforcing sheet metal that may be attached to the guide assembly/post. Is that reinforcement attached to the door or just the post?? I can't tell what's up in the assembly manual - section F, pg 9.00. Maybe the idea is to just remove as many bolts/nuts as I can and sort it out later... not what I'm accoustomed to doing. Don

        Don -

The step-by-step photo-illustrated window removal procedure is on page 1-16 in the ST-12.

Thanks, John. It took me a bit to figure out what ST-12 was and then I actually remembered that I bought the manual some time ago. However, by that time, I already had figured out how to dismantle the door without damaging anything! It isn't all that difficult taking it apart, but getting it back together may be another story.

One of the surprising things was the stud on the post which is at a 22 degree angle (approximately) to the mounting surface on the door. When the door was assembled by someone in the past, they ran the nut (by itself) up the stud and tightened it against the door fiberglass. Don't know how the factory handled this problem, but I'm going to make a fiberglass wedge, 'glue' it in place in the door to permit the nut to mate against a flat surface.
