Re: 65 convertible pillar weatherstrip ?
Tom: seat one entire side of the rubber strip into the metal channel, then use a popsicle stick or tongue depressor to compress the other side enough to get it under its lip. Just work it in a half inch at a time.- Top

Re: 65 convertible pillar weatherstrip ?
Tom,
the certian reproduction part is a piece of junk. It does not have the wire of the original and that wire was in there for a reason and the cross section is wrong making it hard to get in the pillar. Yes you can tuck and pinch this in a very clean track, but there is more to it depending upon which supplier you got the part from.- Top

I recently did this one
Make sure the stainless metal molding is cleaned out along each edge and sealer applied between it and the windshield molding.
Test fit the weather strip
Start from the bottom and glue and screw the part that goes on the door opening first
I used a black silicone type.
Apply about 1.5 inches of adhesive at a time and tuck one edge in and then the other.

Re: 65 convertible pillar weatherstrip ?
John I have the black as well as the yellow. I am going to try it tomorrow. I have to have rotator cuff surgery next week so I would like to get as much done now as possible. The Dr. said I would be out of commision for about 6 weeks. Thanks again for all the help. Tom- Top

Re: 65 convertible pillar weatherstrip ?
Tom;
It's been 34 years since I last did mine so I can't offer any advice, but I do want to wish you well on your surgery. Rotator Cuff - hummmm, guess your pitching days are over. You'll have to settle in on milder pursuits like rebuilding a 65 Corvette.
Missed you at the Old Town 20th anniversary cruise a couple weeks ago. They had some 700+ cars there including many from near by states. Guys were lining up already on Thursday for the Saturday opening at 0900. I got there at 0900 and found the last holding spot in the Red Lobster parking lot. I received a commemorative license plate and hung around until a little after noon in order to make good my escape before the afternoon monsoon.

I planned on going to the big bash but my arm hurt so bad that we stayed home. I did finish my weater stripping today. It was not as bad as I thought. I want to thank everyone who offered help and advice. It looks like after Thursday I will be out of commision for about six weeks. If that goes as well as my weatherstrip job I will be very happy. Stu I geuss Octobervettes will be the next trip to Old Town. I hope my 65 is ready to go by then. What is your son working on now? Tom Stanton #41491- Top

Re: 65 convertible pillar weatherstrip ?
Glad to hear you got the weather stripping installed. I expect I may re-do my doors after I re-bush the hinges and re-align them. The thick heavy areas at the top rear portions of the doors tore some time ago.
The son bought a nice 96 Grand Sport coupe some time back. It's in near new condition (everything works), and that LT-4 really hauls the mail. He fixed up a few things and would be driving it more except for the weather. He got it on E-Bay for about 10k less than the going rate on the market - can't loose.
Again, best wishes on a successful operation. Hope you get rid of the pain. You've known enough.
