    "Bubba" by any other name?

    When involved in the endeavor of restoring older corvettes to, hopefully, their stock if not original condition, one quickly learns that the various components just to not simply "snap" back together with precision. More typically, fitting "pieces" together requires considerable time, confusion, trial and error, patience, aggravation, doubt, and creativity. Hopefully, the end result of this effort is functionally and cosmetically sound, which is a considerable part of the reward of the restoration process. I know when the end result does not reach this desired criterion, the responsibility lies with "Bubba". But when it does, should we not have another name for the individual who mastered this task successfully?

        Give Bubba a little slack.....He did some of his best work before Ebay and the Internet...He didn't have access to O.E. parts that he knew of....It wasn't a hobby.....It was a passion...Most often his work was aimed at putting the Vette back on the road with a small budget...Been there done that.

        My two cents.....It's a lot different now than it was back then.

          But sometimes, Bubba could try a little harder.

          While the blue starter was likely done to get it back on the road for low cost, the choice to use rope to hold the battery cable and wiring was highly un-Zora-like.

              My favorite Bubbaism....

              I have a great deal of respect for those mechanics who figure out how to make do with the parts on hand. Here is what I found when I removed the gas tank sender on my 59. I understand that the 59's mechanic vacationed in Hawaii every year, where no doubt he picked up a number of NOS parts for the 59. I believe Bubba's float lasted 10 to 15 years, or about as long as the original brass floats lasted.

                Bubba is as Bubba does....When restoring a Corvette....It's like a box of chocolates....You never know what you'll find ( couldn't help myself...but it's true )

                  Wasn't that line you never know what you'll get. There were a few other good lines from that movie too

                    Hello Richard;
                    You make a very valid point.
                    Bubba to us, is a master mechanic in many parts of developing world.
                    One of the reason the 265 and successors are still popular throughout the world.
                    Just my 2 cents.

                        Bubbas have no buusiness working on cars. Do it right or let someone else do it. If Bubba's ideas are OK, then why do we pay for all of the engineering that goes into the machinery and fasteners?

                          What's wrong with Cuba? It was a vacation hot spot for the mob 60 years ago, Fidel fixed that. No Bubba is your neighbor, and my neighbor too, one of these days I'll post a picture of:

                          Bubba's box of bolts...
