    69 Alternator Judging Question

My 350/350 has a 1100497 3E10 alternator. I'v been searching for a 1100859 or 1100900 (my car is an Oct 69 build) with no luck so far.

According to the judging manual there are 13 orginality points, 11 condition points and 6 for date.

Will I loose all the available points? Any help on sourcing a correct 69 alternator. Pirkle and Paragon have given me little hope. Thanks.

    Re: 69 Alternator Judging Question

Aside from a few all-other-nothing-items like the stamp pad, it's almost impossible to lose ALL points on a given item. I can't imagine a possible scenario for an alternator aside from it being missing entirely or maybe it being an adaptation from an aftermarket or other OEM piece.

Your local chapter probably holds occasional judging schools which would demonstrate the five elements of originality that are evaluated on most items. Correct part number is just one of many details examined.

Kelly if all other items are correct for the Alternator other then the part # and Date. You would receive a 25% deduction for the originality, if there are other differences from the original alternator and the installation there would more deductions. The reason for 25% deduct is the date is judged separately normally it is 20%. A full deduct for the date. Then the Condition would be on its own merits. Hope this helps. Paul 18046

Your alternator drive end frame originally resided on a 1973 Chevrolet. The rest of it, who-knows-where? It is obviously incorrect as to part number and date and it will also be incorrect as to configuration. Still, as Mike says, you won't lose all available points since its GENERAL CONFIGURATION will be correct.

All original 1969 alternators are among the most difficult of all Corvette alternators to locate. Unless you get REAL lucky, be prepared to spend a bundle if you do find one.

Thanks for the responses and your help. I'll probably keep looking for an original but go to Judging prepared to take the deductions. At least now I have a good idea of what to expect.

I'd expect a 40% deduction on Originality for the 'replacement' alternator's Configuration and Date differences... Absent those aspects, its Finish, Installation, and Completeness characteristics should be the same as the factory original part.

Check with Ken Bruno in NJ. I bought an 1100900 from him and was pleased with his work. You can Google him to get his site.

I found my 859 alternator at Knoxville Corvette Expo several years ago.
                Got it for $250
Not that it matters but my car is also an October build 1969
