I've bought all new rivets, bushings, and the proper tool to "smash" the rivet ends. To tool looks like it's to be fit into an air impact hammer so that's what I plan to do. What's a good way to hold the head of the rivet flush to the hinges when I wack the other end with the rivet gun? The head of the rivet is perhaps 3/8 inch in diameter and is domed. Best I can come up with (as an idea) is to hold a heavy piece of iron against the rivet head while using my othe hand to actuate the impact hamer. Is there a better way to hold the rivet head fluch so it doesn't move?
My original rivet heads were badly rusted..strangely only on the drivers side of the mechanism.
