    Time for a little TLC on my 265 V8.

    Well after 116,000 miles on my original 55 265 engine I pulled the heads ( having a miss for two years). Sunken valves from not having hard seats, valve springs weak, push rods ends worn bad . But the engine never uses a drop of oil, bore is great , now putting it back to gather and trying to make thing look pretty again.

    What did you do to the valvetrain, Roy?
    I sure hope you didn't touch the short block.
    Pictures?

      Short block down , nothing , Pic's none . Hay! When I restored the 55 over 30 years ago who cared , what maybe 3 55 being restored . I never took pic's of any Corvette while being restored even tho it was done original , I restored them to drive not show. I admire how people restore their Corvette to perfection (paint markings and all ) but that's not me .

        Not even those of us in the '53-'55 club. How times have changed---

          I wish you luck, my experience has been when you did a valve job on an engine that had several miles on it, it would start using oil.

            Hello Roy and Dick;
            Thinking the same think while reading Roy's post.
            Maybe because the compression is increased forcing carbon into the piston ring grooves ? Stopping the piston rings from moving in the grooves and sealing.

            Just my 2 cents.

            And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
            I hope you dance

              As I have said and many like us, years ago, we just fixed them, and drove them. I don't have any pictures of my 61 that I bought in 1969 and the only one I have of my 66 bought in 1970 is of my wedding day. My wife and I drove off into the sunset in it.

              I am looking for my wedding album for that picture now.

              See you in Sept.
