    C2 NOM Question

I was talking with a co-worker and found out that he is restoring a 1963 convertible. He tells me that sometime over the life of the car the 327 was replaced with a 350 from a 1969 Camaro. He has no idea when this was done or the whereabouts of the original engine. He's not planning on having the car judged so it's not an issue for him but it did make me wonder about how this is handled if the car were to be judged and would the replacement of the engine with a period correct 327 result in a lesser point deduction?

    Thanks,

    Glen

with the 350, minimum of 350/4500 point deduct , and that's just for the incorrect block. if heads, intake carb etc are also non-63 pieces, deductions will continue. mike

      Re: C2 NOM Question

Finding a correctly dated 327 block is pretty easy and inexpensive. I have seen standard bore 327 blocks with heads go for $500 or less. I believe all non-Corvette 327 blocks have no VIN. With an original pad finish, an incorrect Assemply Stamping and no VIN, I believe the deduction could be as little as 50 points out of 3500 assuming the rest of the engine was correct.

mark is correct in that the 870's installed in the 62, 63 and possibly later chevy pass car sbcs don't have a vin derivative stamped on therir pads, however, they do have the machine assembly date on the pad. with some creativity, the flint machine chevy pass car blocks can be used successfully on the corvette judging fields. mike
