    Question for Joe Lucia

Hi Joe. I have a 1969 - 435 with the designation "LX" stamped on the pad which I think indicates an automatic transmission. Do you have any idea how many cars came with 435 hp with an auto?

I do not know the number and I'm not sure that anyone does. However, I believe it to be a small number.

Years ago, I believe that the late Hans Norberg did some research on this subject since 1969 L-71 with M-40 and 1971 LS-6 with M-40 were of particular interest to him. Something may even have been published in the Corvette Restorer; I just don't recall.

I have some figures from Fran Preve he worked at the Tonawanda Plant, he shows 272 LX engines were made. I also own a 435/Auto coupe

Watch out. That was total LX engines produced, as best they could figure out some quarter century later. On the one side, it would be a mistake to assUme all those went into Corvettes at St. Louis.

On the other side, one should also note Fran's caution that 1969 records are less than perfect due to the "extended" model year for only two Chevrolet car lines.

IMO: That number is worthless due to the above "issues." But of course my cautions will not stop anyone from miss-using the miss-information.
