    Motor Mount Through-Bolt Direction??

Tomorrow is the long awaited day that the motor reunites with the frame! (New Dr Rebuild Mounts BTW)

In the interest of checking twice-my 68 AIM shows driver side engine mount through-bolt head towards front of car / nut towards rear.
Is that the same for the passenger side? I believe this to be true but I'm not 100%.

    Thanks all,
    Pat

I don't know how the bolt was originally installed. However, I can definitely tell you this: if you install passenger side bolt with the head oriented toward the front of the car, you will not subsequently be able to remove this bolt without first removing the fuel pump.

Patrick, I just checked my 68 yesterday for another member and mine is drivers side bolthead to the radiator and passenger side bolthead to the gas tank. I couldn't say if mine were ever r&r'ed though.

        Thanks,

I did not realize the fuel pump would be an issue-makes total sense that the passenger side is "reversed" then. I do not have my TIM&JG handy-is bolt orientation judged / called out do you know?

        Thanks again!

The 68/69 JG does not mention anything about motor mounts and bolt directions but the 66 and 67 guides do. They say on a BB the bolts should go opposite each other. Bolt head to the front on the drivers side, head to the rear on the passenger. I see no reason why it would change for 68.

              Patrick -

The passenger side engine mount through-bolt was ALWAYS installed from the rear to the front (bolt head at the rear); the fuel pump was on the engine when it was dropped into the chassis, so the bolt couldn't have been installed front-to-rear.

                Hello John;
Predominately performed engine work (customer pay and warrantee) in the dealership in the mid-sixties.
Mostly Chevelle, some Corvette, and HIPER engines applications. Many oil leaks, especially at high RPMs
Know the Chevelles and other fuel pumps had to be removed to remove the Rt side engine mount bolt. Even experimented with removing the three bolts holding rubber mount to the cylinder case. This actually worked well on some applications. Less fuel pump leaks later.
                Don't specifically remember Corvette(s).

Your expertise overrides anything I remember.

Thank you for the knowledge imparted on the TDB.

                  Guys,
Just because the bolt assembly direction is not mentioned in the judging guide does not indicate it is not an issued judged. The guide is just that a guide.

Well it's in and I did alternate the orientation of the bolts per the conversation.

                    Thanks again all.
