1967 Differential cushion

I am having trouble with the front diff. flange hitting the fiberglass above it when I hit bumps with two people in car with luggage on a 1967 air coupe with 327. I have replaced the cushion with no improvement. I have shimmed the cushion with a .125 washer with no improvement. Looking at the lay out of the suspension it doesn't look like the leaf spring would have anything to do with this problem. Any one have any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

This problem is often caused by a "broken spine". In other words, it's not a problem with the suspension or chassis, it's a problem with a broken and "collapsed" portion of the floorboard.

I believe that years ago Richard Fortier described this problem and a solution to it in a publication he authored. I think this publication is still sold by Paragon for a nominal cost.
