    63 Door Blackout Purpose

There is a significant amount of blackout on my 63 Conv doors. Doesn't make sense factory would spend time/material on area since it is covered by vapor barrier and door panel. Blackout is also upto door jamb line. What prevented blackout from getting all over freshly painted jambs?

What other interior areas received same treatment? Birdcage cross bar, Conv top mounting location?

    Thanks

    Jeff

I don't think the 63s had the plastic cover for the door opener. The black out would make that less noticeable.

Agree with Wayne on plastic cover for door opener - not until mid 64. Not sure when GM stopper painting the opener even when cover added.

What does both me a little; you mentioned a vapor barrier - was that a brown paper or plastic? Would expect the brown paper if not then it may have been opened before.

        Jeff,

You're doors look pretty typical to me. I believe that Wayne and Alan are correct, there is large hole in the paper vapor barrier so it will not interfer with the actuator. This is not covered by the door panel and the actuator lever is visible. That's why it is blacked out. Plastic covers were used later. All of the other door control areas were also blacked out. There are also larger than needed holes in the vapor barrier and the door panel for all of the other door controls. However, these are covered by the door hardware and the panel, so I don't know what the thinking was regarding the extra blackout areas.

          Paul,

Here is pic of original vapor barrier (barrier was untouched as it took about an hour to carefully remove). Still seems like blackout overkill for amount of door that can actually be seen. One shot of blackout on door pull would have been enough. The manufacturing engineer who set up the process sheets must have had a different idea.

          Thanks
