close to original radiators or original harrisons or replicas?

my original in my 68 is shot but I still have it.

also my harrison in my 87 silverado is leaking anyone know of somewhere I can get something very close to these originals?

Took them to radiator shop he said they both had several leaks I don't want to fix them just to have them spring more leaks down the road.

went to napa ordered one for the 87 it was a china POS with plastic ends that didn't even match up to my original.

any suggestions? ofcourse harrison is out of business so no luck there. Like always this is going to be hard.......

    Hi Brandon,
Have you taken a look at the DeWitt's radiator site for a radiator for your 68? They advertise in the DRIVELINE each month.

Pretty sure Dewitts makes a brass/copper repro for your '68 BB. They can also re-core your original, but if your brass side tanks are as bad as mine it doesn't make much sense. Unfortunately nobody seems to make a repro for my '69 so I went with an aluminum Direct Fit, painted black by Dewitts. Looks great and cools much better......30% or more they claim. I kept the old original in the box, to give to the next caretaker. I am more interested in driving a reliable car down here in this Florida heat.

What they said. Save yourself lots of headaches and make Dewitts your first stop.

would you guys recommend Dewiits to RECORE my original over this guy? www.classicradrestore.com

I called this guy he said he will keep my original side tanks etc and put a new core in it tank out and dings (has none) paint it etc will look new again for $475 plus obviously having to ship it from SC to MI. (ouch)

anyone use the guy above or used the dewiits to recore an original?

          thanks

Brandon Dewitts is a perfect replacement. Make sure you get the retangular cutouts on top and no round holes for your 68. Your PN# clip-on tag from your original can be clip back on the new one.

Harrison Thermal Products Division of DELPHI is not out-of-business. However, they are long-since out of the business of making radiators for 1968 Corvettes and also, I believe, radiators for 1987 Chevrolet pick-up trucks.

If you want a Harrison quality radiator? Dewitts is the best choice.

called dewitts earlier spoke with a young lady who has me a replacement for my 68 on the way she said it's VERY close. Kinda pricey but sure beats a plastic made in china deal.

she also she said can't help me with the 87 silverado looks like maybe I'll have to go with www.classicradrestore.com for that one he charges $475 to recore one plus I'll have to ship it from SC to MI which probably won't be cheap. Hate to spend that kinda money on a truck but it has 63k original miles on it all original even paint so I hate to throw made in china crap on it too haha the ncrs fever flows into your other toys sometimes too happening to anyone else!? wonder where dewitts gets their radiators maybe if I pushed it she would hook me up with someone that can get me one for my 87.

Try these people for you '87 pickup http://www.radiatorexpress.com/part_lookup.asp I know nothing about them, but they list some very respected manufacturers as suppliers.

Look up your truck (R-10) and select one of 4-5 listed. I guess you could call them and verify the radiator

                      Brandon -

They manufacture their own radiators - that's what they do.

Re: close to original radiators or original harrisons or replicas?

                        Brandon,

The radiator in my 71 LS5 started leaking after I got the car. I took it ot a local shop that I have used before and they fixed the leak. Once I got the car back on the road (after an engine rebuild) I chased a high temp problem for the better part of a summer. I made sure everything was as it should be from the timing (full time vacuum port) to the air dam and associated insulation. I even changed the fan clutch (try to find a good one for a 71 LS5....). Nothing made the temp run where I thought it should.

I even took the temp sensor into work and ran it in one of our temperature chambers and plotted the resistance over temperature, then verified the gauge with the measurements and they were both very close to what the readings were supposed to be. Ruling out any temperature indication issues. (I also used an IR temp gun)

Long story short, I bit the bullet and plunked down the cash for a new Dewitts radiator and have never looked back. One of the best things I did for the car. I wasted a lot of time trying to be "frugal".

                        You made the right decision!

                        Good luck,

                        Tom

Noticed this got some more replies thanks to all the thoughts. I feel good that dewitts will be close enough and will be all NEW so I think I'll be happy with it.

as far as my truck I myself put it in a 100gal cattle tub I had sealed it off and put some air to it had several tink leaks in the end of the core. I talked with www.classicradrestore.com and if he puts an all new core in it test it paint it etc I think I will be best to go that route. I called ups today and it's only $16 to ship it from SC to MI gave them the deminsions and weight. Thought about a be cool or a griffin but they all have the aftermarket LOOK even though they're great radiators.

so this way my toys stay original, thanks for the recommendation of dewitts!
