I'm working on a 71 convertible--ordered seals from a reputable vendor that touts theirs as perfect fit, etc. However, the "plugs" that are to push through the outer stainless molding and into the door are not located in the right places, and only some will fit, others don't line up. The pre-drilled holes on each end also don't line up with the holes in the stainless molding and the door. Is it possible that the ones I received are for a coupe rather than convertible, even though the package was properly labeled? What is the difference between the coupe an convertible upper seals? Thanks!!!

Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
The outer door seals (glass wipes) are different from coupe to conv., because of the top, overall length is the same, conv. are about 1 1/4" shorter on the rear inner edge. They should have the same side mounting holes and maybe one could trim the coupe type to work on conv.?, I think the problem is poor fit repo's, the OE design repos may fit better but probably not as good as GM originals. Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
I received one of the very first sets of these seals in 1999 when Corvette C*ntr*l first made them. I had the same issues with a few of the "push-ins" not being in the correct location. I gave feedback directly to the owners, and even offered to show them my car so that they could see the fit problems (I live just over an hour away). I did not receive any response, and I suspect that the same fit issues are still present 10+ years later.
As with most repro parts, "correct" just means you get to "cut to fit, paint to match" less than with other parts.

Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
Seems to me they're not that tough to modify for a good fit. Didn't take me long at all - it's just the fact that it had to be done to a "correct" piece.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
If CC fixed the placement of the "push ins" - something they've known since I got my pair no later than August of 99 - then they'd be perfect.
(I know the date as I was installing them in spare time after a wrist surgery I'd had on the 16th of August that year)Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
Take note of where you need to move the push-in; more one at a time and test fit before doing the next one.
Bend the tabs of the push-ins to straighten them using a small screwdriver.
Make new holes in the strip to insert the tabs. I think I used an awl, but no guarantees.
Insert tabs into new holes, bend back over.
The screw holes will have to be drilled or, use an awl to punch new ones.
Oh, I think a couple of the push-ins were too fat and I had to make them a bit narrower with a pliers to fit into the hole in the door.
IIRC I had to move 2 push-ins and use the awl to make 1 screw hole.
I hope that helps.

Re: Door outer window seals don't fit
Hi Mike,
Could you please comment on the the shape and size of the rubber 'flap' part of your reproduction outer seal compared to your 71's originals.
I believe the the orignal flap is narrower and exibits a distinct lip at the the edge that touches the side window on 70-71 cars.
My observation is that original 'flaps' often have parts of the lip loose or missing from the pressure of the glass sliding up and down over the years.
Are you seeing anything like that lip?
I believe the CC seal was based on a 72+ seal which had a wider 'flap' and no lip.
Thanks for looking!
