What would be a good brand of oil for BB. Engine just rebuilt and ready for start up. I have seen advice on zinc additives for the initial start up. Where can this be purchased.

Re: Oil Recommendation
Walter------
I would add a pint of GM Engine Oil Supplement. You can purchase this at any GM dealer under GM #88862586. That will give you all the zinc phosphate you need.
You're probably also wise to use a diesel motor oil like Shell Rotella or Chevron Delo. I would use 10W30 or 10W-40.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Oil Recommendation
Walter,
You can buy Rotella oil at Wal-Mart, and probably elsewhere. Other CJ-4 oils may be available for less. Make sure you follow the cam break in procedure specified by the cam manufacturer. There have been several good threads on cam break in on here, too.
Good luck and may the force be with you!

Re: Oil Recommendation
Chevron Delo is also available at wallmart for about $10 a gallon, has all the zinc you need. On start up, I would add a gm additive if you are unsure if the cam has been coated with lube. If it has, then just use the diesel type oil. also use the diesel type oil for regular use.- Top

Re: Oil Recommendation
Don't forget Walmart's house brand SuperTech 15W-40 CJ-4 for about $8.50/gallon.
The only thing that count's is API service category and a viscosity range suitable to the lowest temperature cold start.
CJ-4 is CJ-4 is CJ-4 regardless of brand.
