'66 Shifter Console Color

Noting black shifter console color on '66 (early - Sept.) car. Car is conv. w/ Black exterior and Saddle leather interior (appropriately coded for such). Car appears very original in all areas, and still carries it's factory tan convertible top. Dash (Saddle) remains in very nice original condition.

My question is if any known variations re. shifter color console choice. Not typical for Shifter console color not to match. Black shifter console looks good though and contrasts well w/ Glove and Gauge console black. Would likely want to return to saddle if not any other known examples. Could factory have run out of color and used Black for the shifter console? Any thoughts.

Possible, but highly unlikely, as the console is a major appearance part; it should be saddle.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, is my feeling also that shifter console should match and not typical factory. Just wondering if any others have come across this type of variation on what appears to be an original car.
