    Re: 70 L46 engine problem

Got it started last night. Runs great! The Marvel Mystery Oil is running out of the exhaust pipe/exhaust connections on the right side, and smoke is coming out the right side exhaust. It smells like wintergreen, so I'm sure it's the Marvel Mystery Oil. I know that will take a while to go away. (If you remember, I poured a 50/50 mix of Marvel Mystery Oil and Berryman's B12 down the intake. The #6 intake valve was stuck open, so that cylinder filled up with the solution, and it likely exited through the exhaust valve.)
Both sides of the exhaust now have equal pressure.
There is just a very small amount of smoke coming from the left side, and I think that is from the Marvel Mystery Oil/Berryman's mix.
Runs really smooth, and it is really strong. I think I lucked out.
Thank you guys for the help.

If that solution was in the cylinder, you are very lucky that you did not get a hydraulic lock. Fluid on top of a piston and closed valves do not make a very good combination.

I have a truck with a stuck engine that I have been soaking with PB Blaster, kerosene, what ever, for over 10 years. I am hoping when I tear it down I will not have to blast the valves and pistons out.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. You remind me of an old retired friend of mine who got a 40 vintage Jeep from a salvage yard that had a seized motor. He just used WD40, and after a year or so, finally freed it up. He was so proud of that, I think he would say it was his finest accomplishment. He has a lot of high dollar cars too, but this old 40 something Jeep that cost less that $200 has brought him the most enjoyment. Funny.

Dick, for some reason, I never considered you as having that kind of patience! Sounds like you might be puttin' off restoring that old truck! Hope to see you in September. Chip.

Chip, the UPS truck or USPS is leaving NOS parts here two-three times a week. I do have it in the shop, getting ready to cut the cab off and start on the chassis. I am chasing a decent cab, may have to buy another truck to get the cab. I hope to get the rolling chassis done by spring of next year.

It is getting hard for me to work 8-10 hours a day in my business and then have any energy to go back at night and work on the old IHC.

I did find out that there is no use me even trying to lift the engine with my cherry picker, the bare engine weights over 1,200#. They put a lot of pig iron in them in 1946
