62 wheel color

The 62 I just bought (restored but not judged yet)is white w/ red interior. The wheels are painted black and many pics I've seen reflect a small area just at the edge of the cap that is the same color as the body. Is that how all the wheels were painted (to match ext. color)

James, According to the 1961-62 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide on page 40:
"1962 standard wheels with blackwall tires (and all RPO 276 wide-base wheels) are painted body color (enamel);however black wheels were specified for 1962 Corvettes if equipped with white wall tires. Rim face is fully painted; center hub may not be completely covered, but rather oversprayed. Backside of wheel remains black, but will show signs of face color overspray". Hope this helps.

James, My wheels were painted black with the full caps and whitewalls. I liked Tom Parsons car so much I had the wheels sand blasted and powder coated black, then the outer wheels painted red to match body color and went with the dogdish caps.

My white with red interior and full hupcaps had black wheels and narrow whitewalls as called out in the judging manual.
