    PT,

I have a Tung Sol natural finish (round) #552 on my late 67 (22049) as a hazard flasher. I'm pretty sure it is the original factory hazard flasher, and it still works. (Even after my wheel bearing failure incident, where it wore out the battery and signal switch, after an hour and a half on the side of the road). Wonder if there is a date code on the Tung Sol #552.

In comparison to the signal flasher, how often does one use the hazard flasher. The signal flasher is probably guaranteed to wear out before the hazard flasher.

I also think that many problems with either flasher, especially the hazard flasher, are probably related to the signal switch in the steering column.
There is only one conductor back to the signal element of the rear lights, and the signal light flasher, hazard flasher, and brake lights use it through the signal switch on the steering column.

Jerry, a couple years ago, I ordered a NOS signal switch from LICS for $70. The guy on the phone said I had just bought the last NOS switch he had, still in the box. I don't know how good the repops are though. PT

I agree with Peter, the hazard flasher and the signal flasher are independent of each other. They are on completely different circuits which come together at the signal switch in the steering column.

When you push the hazard switch on the column in, you are disconnecting the turn signal circuit, and connecting the hazard circuit to the front and rear signal lights.

It would be odd that one flasher would effect the other, but I learn something every day.

Maybe you have a fuzzy hazard switch in the column.

The retangular hazard flasher goes on the fuse panel. I have my original hazard flasher on my 67, on the fuse panel. It is the circular one, still works just great.
Thanks for the info Jerry and Pete. I now see my problem. I was putting the hazard flasher on the radio side panel connection and the turn signal flasher on the fuse box connection. When I switched them to the correct places, all works fine. I was able to find NOS, non-DOT flashers for both, so no more deducts for me at the Regionals in October. Thnaks again.

Jerry - Check your 552 flasher and you should find 3 digits stamped on the side of the cover near the top. I'm looking at one with 7 2 0 [7(1967) 20th week)]. Yours should be close to that. You might have to put on your glasses.

Turn signal flashers usually failed because as you might guess they were (or should have been) used more. You're the only one I know who "exercised" his hazard warning flasher sooooo much.

BTW, you can save your turn signal flasher by using arm signals. You're old enough to remember them.

            Peter,

You are right about the glasses to read the date code. So I used a camera:

721 would be the week ending in May 26, 1967. Fits right in with my June 29 car. Here's the top for the record:

A little beat up, but it still works.

As far as the signal flasher, I think it is my original #323 or a very early replacement, non-Dot. I remember in 69, I had to get a heavy duty one when I put the trailer hitch on (oh sacrilege!), and towed a boat trailer. Whether I saved it, I'm not sure.

On the hand signals, I still know how to do it, but avoid it, as it screws up the Vintage Air system in hot weather

Having fun, see you in Charlotte?
