    107 coil on ebay

I am hesitant to purchase a 107 ignition coil for my 61 FI from a new reproduction GM vendor through ebay. I asked this vendor if it would pass NCRS judging. This was his reply: Yes this coil is acceptable to NCRS as a correct replacement part. Minor point deduction is taken for GM Licensed Reproduction part. Remember that judges are human and can exhibit subjectivity when they should be objective.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

Bill, Is this the ebay# 190369204385? This is from "Wild Bill's Corvette & GM Parts".

I would be interested in following the evaluation/response as I am also looking for a 107 Coil from a reputable supplier.

A judge who knows what to look for in a '61 configuration would want to pay attention to the nubs to hold the terminal in position vs the pins used in earlier years. The current JG notes that the NUB should not be present. That also changes the configuration of the metal part that the spade terminal slides into as without the nubs, there should be a small hole drilled to accept a tang that restricts movement.

You've got two ways to go on this. The first is to look for an original, used coil. These are very hard to find and if you do find one the condition of it could be questionable. The second way to go is a reproduction. Of those available, I think this GM Restoration Parts licensed piece is probably about the best there is out there, even though it's likely not correct in every nuance of detail.

As far as I can tell, the GM #1115107 coil was never available in SERVICE. This was a PRODUCTION-only part number which was likely the part number for the ASSEMBLY of the bracket and coil but embossed on the coil. Delco-Remy used to do this. So, if you find an "NOS" example, it's likely a fraud.

I believe the coil on Ebay can be made correct by removing the square bosses where the wires attach. It should be round , around the center tower.
This can be accomplished with some gentle "body work" and fine sanding to get the smooth finish.

                  Re: 107 coil on ebay

Joe is correct, I have looked for a original 107 coil for better then a decade now and found one or two that were re-sleeved or in very poor condition that wasn't worth the aggravation to restore. Came across this auction 190369204385 on ebay the other day, and was curious to hear your input before purchasing. Are all 107 coils from other vendors incorrect one way or another from the the original? Second, is this the best reproduction 107 coil available today?

A good idea Bruce, have any pictures, before & after?

Possibly, but it would also need two holes drilled and the "typical" retainer used that has tangs that fit into the holes.Picture attached, no "nub" two holes, note the locator leg that drops into the hole to the left of the threaded post.

This may help with your search for the 107, picture is an original one that I'm getting ready to paint.

Yes, I believe it is. In fact, it pretty much has to be the GM Restoration Parts licensed reproduction or they wouldn't be able to put the "Delco-Remy" script on it (legally).

The only other "reproductions" I know of are the ones made by Goat Hill Classics. They use original Delco-Remy tops salvaged from identical-to-original but otherwise not-in-demand coils installed on new reproduction "cans" and innerds.

I got one made by Goat Hill Classics. He charges around $270 for reconditioned original. He takes original coil tops and then a can that he makes himself. This is not the same coil that you find from repop shops. You have to contact him directly though. No website that I know of. I would look him up.

Bill,Line up a repro and the real deal coil side by side.
Personally I would rather use a nice Delco Remy coil with the wrong numbers on it.
If I had a fuel car that needed a coil I would go buy a nice NOS 64-65 coil (readily available on ebay in the box all the time) and stick it on.
Plan B" Tons of '087 coils out there especially since the 5th edition of the 63-64 n book says the FI cars should have 091's. JD
Go buy an 087 or 022 (maybe 202) and stick it on. Who cares about the small point deduction.
Coil points. Ignition coil, mounting & capacitor. 5 & 5.
Worry more about passing the OPS tests.
