1967 car pulls to the right

Just had a 4 wheel alignment, the man says its good to go. As long as I keep a little pressure to the left, it's ok, as soon as I turn the wheel a little to the right, it ducks right. The car did do that before the alignment. The car has PS, could it be time for a control valve overhaul? Your thoughts, thanks.

You might try the adjustment screw in the end of the control valve first.

        Hello Keith;
The PS is power assist type.
Drive on a flat road where you can coast. Turn the engine off in neutral.
        Does anything change?

Also try changing tires from side to side.

        Hope these suggestion helps.

          Keith,

Can you post the print out results for the alignment..Caster, Camber, toe in..

To double check the assist cylinder for null position it's best to remove the castle nut where it bolts to frame bracket then idle the engine and check for any movement of the cylinder rod. If there is, adjust the nut just inside the dust cap. I bet you don't find any problem with the assist cylinder.

Look carefully at the front end ball joints, tie rod ends. The alignment should have included a check here first. If everything looks OK I would check for small play in the steering box.

I am currently going through the same thing, it's amazing how this is often overlooked. My 67 will not pull left/right but will walk down the crown of the road and I believe it's from the play in the box. I end up steering with pressure on the left as you describe. Total toe in is set at 5/16 with the bias tires, camber is set slightly positive and both sides are the same..

            Keith:

Are you running radials or bias ply tires?? Are they new or worn??

Some radials that have been used for awhile (5000 miles) and then rotated can pull to one side when driving. Putting them back in their original/initial position solves the pulling problem. This has happened to me at least twice that I can remember on my driver cars. Alignment was checked and found to be correct both times.

Fortunately the Corvette tracks straight.....1967 small block with manual steering and Firestone bias tires.

I've experienced this same scenario when rotating tires, and/or replacing tires, even when the front end was properly aligned. For me, the simple fix was to swap both front tires. Problem solved.

                Kieth,

Even though you just had a 4 wheel alignment most if not all shops don't want to get the rear toe 100% because they don't want to remove the trailing arm bolts and shims repeatedly. If you tturn to the right or left does the rear track the same both ways?

Gotter done. Thanks to Mike M and Ray G. Rotated front tires first, didn't help. Shut the motor off and coasted, the problem went away. Took the dust cap off the contral valve and tighted the nut about 2/3 of a turn, and problem solved, I really didn't try the Foxs news thing. Thanks.

                    Keith,

2/3's turn is quite a bit for the adjusting nut. Did you null the valve or just adjust it to where the car will not pull. The valve may be holding pressure on one side if it's not null and problem not solved..
