    '63 Clutch Pedal

    Hello,

The clutch pedal broke/cracked on my '63 and I was wondering if I was better off ordering a new repro or having the original welded back together??
I've already ordered and received new bushings and retainer clip(s) as my j-clip was lying on the driver side carpet when I took it out of storage a couple of weeks ago.

If I do have the pedal welded, I guess it would be a good time to re-paint the assembly. What process and type of paint/primer should I use?
My '63 is an unrestored driver.

    Thanks for any advice!

    Syd

Syd -- my original was cracked in my 396 (on the left, in pic), and I was afraid it would drop off at a stop light . Won an NOS pedal off eBay; now installed.

I figure I could always have the original welded back up, in the same location(s) that were tacked on the NOS.

      Thanks Wayne.

I'm sure mine cracked in the same spot as yours but haven't seen it as I brought it to the shop this morning and my guy called me with the news late today.

When I took the car out of winter storage I saw the broken j-clip lying on the carpet and had no idea what it was but figured it was important. I made it about 1/2 mile down the hill from my place that day when the pedal collapsed but managed to put it together and ride home in first gear (lucky I made the light on a steep hill). I installed a new clip and thought all was good but now I'm happy I decided to find out more about the wobbly pedal.

I was hoping for a quick fix as I'm entered this weekend in the Sportsman class at our Quebec Chapter meet here in Montreal but I guess I'll order the new pedal and wait the week for delivery from the States and save the original for the day when serious work is done on my car.
      Oh well.
