    63 exhaust manifold parts

    Are the studs used to attach 63 exhaust pipes to the manifolds, as well as the french locks and washers under the manifold bolts all supposed to be plain carbon steel, rather than stainless?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Michael;

    To the best of knowledge, that is correct. The factory did not use stainless steel bolts on the exhaust.

    I for one installed stainless bolts to the engine pipe when I rebuilt the motor... I do not have the car judged and I can always take everything apart easily.

    Hope this helps,

    Joel

      Yes, plain steel is what they're SUPPOSED to be. However, you won't find such plain steel parts on any of my cars. I would not use plain steel exhaust manifold studs "for-love-nor-money". NEVER. EVER.

        Thanks Joe,

        The repops I've found are all stainless, so I wasn't sure if the plain carbon steel parts on one of my 63's were correct. They're in great shape, so I may restore them and put them back on (heavily oiled) for judging (its not going to be driven much so corrosion is not an issue).

        The 63 that I sometimes drive has stainless and will always
