    C2 Shifting problem

Toll the 66 out got the 1st time last night. Ran good, the only problem was when I had to stop I could not get it into 1st gear. I tried to go into 2nd and had the same problem. I finally had to really lean on it to get it to go into 1st. Happened several times. It's not a close ratio trans. Linkage or trans problem? Thannks joe

Joe, sounds like the shift linkage may be in need of adjustment, or check for worn rods, the slightest wear will cause, the shifter to hang up, and a problem shifting between gears.

May also be a clutch problem, the trans has to be essentially free of the clutch to allow the blocking rings, which are essentially small clutches to speed up or slow down the respective gears to allow them to mesh with the slider. Clutch drag is normally the main cause of hard shift into first at a stop, assuming the linkage itself is not misaligned to the point where the shifter can not be placed in the 1-2 slot.

What had you done to your 66 before you took it out for the first time? How did it drive before "last night"?

Clutch adjustment could help to pull back the pressure plate from the compressing the clutch disc.

Sounds as if the clutch is not fully disengaging.

Check the T-Handle on the shifter, the rod inside the T-Handle may have slipped down. That rod is bent over to keep from falling. I had the same problem. Some of the T-Handles had a set screw that locked the rod in position.
