    Prepping NOS Quadrajet For Use

I bought an NOS Service Replacement Quadrajet # 7029207, GM part # 07046904. Per a recent post by Joe Lucia this should be the correct service replacement for my 1969 350/350 L46.
At minimum what should be done to make the carb compatible with todays gasoline?
Also, can anyone tell me what decade it was made. It is stamped 7029207 and the date stamp is 0832. 72, 82, 92? Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't mess with it; I'd install it just as-is. It may be that you'll need to put a kit and a float into it sooner than you would if gasoline did not contain alcohol, but I doubt there will be much difference. Chances are you'll never have to do anything during your lifetime. After that, who cares?

I don't know of any way to tell which year the "2" applies to. Most likely, though, it's 1982 or 1992.

Thanks Joe. The weather here in Northern Illinois this weekend is forecast to be sunny and in the 80's. I hope to get her out on the road.

Thanks Clem. I've never worked on the internals of a carb. Only the external adjustments. I have the Doug Roe book and the 1969 and 1970 Service and Overhaul maunuals, and I'll have all winter . So I should be able to figure it out.
Would the Hygrade # 424 kit have whatever I need to do this?

check the pump cup for color and it should be any color but black. all the ones i have seen for Q jets have been blue. some kits i have seen for really old Q jets have had the black one and i think those kits were very old. the pump cups are available all by themselves

I think I'd wait for the pump cup to start showing evidence of a problem and then I'd replace it. I think it will be quite awhile before any such problems will occur. I just hate to think of "opening up" a brand-new, factory assembled carburetor.

I bought one of those for my 69 L46.
It had one size 66 jet and one size 69 jet.
I replaced both of them with size 71 jets and it runs much better.

what happens with cars that are stored is the cup "welds" itself to the pump well and will not move. you will know when this happens as the pump plunger will not move

                    Joe and Clem,
Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it. Don't know what I would do without all the help and advice I get from the NCRS members on this board.
Although I do not "drive" my Vettes in the winter, once a month on a clear dry day I will run them for 30-40 minutes and back them up and down the driveway 5 or 6 times.
