finish on power steering control valve, etc.

Can anyone tell me what finish is on:
Body of control valve: mine has reminants of black paint
Rubber boot clamp on control valve: mine has lots of black paint
Control valve to relay rod bolt: looks like black phosphate
    Cylinder: black paint
    Cylinder nut on rod end:

    This is for a 73
    Thanks

    control valve body----semi-gloss black paint

rubber boot and clamp----these were usually painted with the valve

control valve to relay rod bolt----if you mean the BALL STUD, it was black phosphate

cylinder rod end nut-----it was a slotted nut of "plain" finish. "Plain" means a natural finish which may vary from natural steel to a darker gray or brown.

No, I meant the bolt that clamps the threads between the control valve and the relay rod. ... but it looks like it's black phosphate.

It is. Also, I think this bolt should be a 12 point head unless that stopped prior to 1973.

Nope, it's a hex head, grade 5 with a big C with an H in the middle of the C.

Yes, I now think that's correct. For some unknown reason I was thinking this was a 12 point bolt. Maybe I had it confused with the clamp bolt for the steering box coupling which was a 12 point bolt.

1963-E1968 Corvettes used bolt GM #106332. L1968-82 Corvettes used bolt GM #9418824. Neither of these bolts was ever available in SERVICE. However, I now think that both were 3/8-16 X 1-1/2", standard hex, GM 280M material grade bolts. I think the 106332 may have been of "plain" finish whereas the 9418824 was likely black phosphate-finished.

3/8-16 x 1 3/8, I measured it today and I saw remenants of black phosphate. It's now cleaned, black phospahted again and back where it should be.

I think that 1-1/2" length is the "official" length of the bolt. Very often the actual length measurement of any particular bolt of known part number varies from the "official" length. I have no idea why.
