79 under hood lamp

how does the lamp get its ground ?i did hook up the short ground wire from the light to hood support. no light , run a jumper to ground light comes on?

Mine has a small jumper wire that attaches to the hood support and to the screw holding the light. It should get its ground thru the lower bolt on the hood support, where it bolts to the core support(ground).
Mine works. Hope this helps. Kurt

Here is what I have. The lower bolt goes into the core support. Make sure that bolt is clean for a good ground. Kurt
