As I understand it..... Most of the Cars that are still running have either Toyota or Russian 4 cylinder motors now.

Thanks! It appears that one Corvette is (or was) in Cuba not too long ago. I moved around on this web site and found one photo.

True, but it's a good facsimile. When was the last time that you saw the movie?

BTW, you used to be able to get into Cuba through Mexico.

As for the stogies, they're expensive in England and Germany, but cheap in Mexico even at the AICM (Juarez airport) shops.

I've been there with my Cuban wife, to visit her family. Took a ride in a '57 Desoto from Havana to the other end of the island with several gas cans strapped on the roof. There are no gas stations and it took us 24 hours to go 300 miles. We had to stop every 20 or 30 miles to tighten the front wheel so it wouldn't fall off. I have lots of pictures of the old American cars, but none digital or I would post them. Saw a '49 Dodge flat head six with a Toyota carb on it. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. What I really wanted to find was a functioning toilet...one has to carry a bucket of water to flush. It is really sad, the people there are suffering horribly because they are nothing more than slaves to the military dictatorship. It really has nothing to do with communism. Try living on $12 per month wages, $24 if you are a doctor specializing in bone marrow transplants...like my wife's brother. I bought his 8 year old son his first Coca-Cola. Of course, then there are all the international sex tourists who go there to buy teenage girls for the weekend, for a carton of cigarettes. The saddest part of all is that hardly anybody in America cares, and Cuba is right next door. The US embargo has done nothing but penalize Cuba's working poor. There is really nothing interesting or funny about life in Cuba. Enough said.

Not so hard to read the license plates Jim.

Here are some too, but not too many cars.

That reminds me of an investment friend of mine that drives a new Corvette. He is REALLY big on how great things are in China & investing in Chinese business. I always point out to him the (minor) detail of "as long as you agree with the government." Don H.

                Hi,
The trunk lid of the 57 Chevrolet explains where the 1 of 1 TURBO 57 wound up. No wonder so few people know about it.
                Regards,

According to some sources, 80-90% of all "Cuban" cigars are fake

This article is a bit dated but I would imagine it to be worse rather than better.

Interesting article. They're talking about cubans in Mexico, though.

Guess it's just like big block C2 Vettes, when the price gets high enough the counterfeits start showing up.

Re: Not Technical and not Corvettes but interesting

I visited Cuba in 1991 as part of the US Pan American Rowing team. This was just 2 years after I bought my 1960 (which I still own) and when I got on the island I decided to look for old cars (especially Corvettes). I found a taxi driver who for a few extra greenbacks took me to a lot full of old cars-none of them running but in pretty good shape for being in the Cuban sun. The lot included a Model A Ford, 58-59 Caddie, Porsche and a Fuel Injected Vette with hardtop (minus the FI unit). Of course, everything was for sale and if I was a Canadian I would have loaded up a container full these cars and shipped them north. I have pictures of this lot and these cars. I wonder if this lot or these cars still exist? When I get a moment I will post the pictures.
