I had my 89' judged at a local meet in Tulsa couple years ago and I am planning on going to Des Moines for the regional there next week.( yes im registered). My question is,, are local meets and regional meets judged the same ( guidelines)... I suspect that the regional would be tougher, but do the same rules apply for both? My example is this,,,,,, at the local under the operations section I was still awarded points for an item that perhaps still worked but not to perfection.... Today I get a letter for Des Moines saying that I should check everything under operations because 25 points will be deducted for anything found wrong,,, so its an all or nothing then??????? It wasnt at the local meet,,, thanks for your help.... hope I explained this ok,,,,, doug f

Re: Question regarding top flight judging.
Doug there should be no difference between a Chapter or Regional meet the way a car is judged in OPS or any other section. The only difference is the knowledge of the judges. At a regional each team should have at least 1 master judge per section if not more. Where a chapter meet depending on the chapter and year car may only have 1 or 2 master judges for all teams.
As for operation section if you have a failure of and item and that is the only thing in that item its a full deduct. But lets say it turn signals if one bulb is not working and you have 2 front 2 rear and 4 or 2 side lights. You then divide the number of lights 6 into 25 lights each light is worth 4 points.
Hope that helps.

ALL NCRS judging meets work from the same set of standards (Judging Guide and Judging Reference Manual). There is NO difference.
However, you'll tend to be judged 'harder' at the higher level meets because MANY more high qualified judges show up there then they do at most Chapter level meets.
My example is this,,,,,, at the local under the operations section I was still awarded points for an item that perhaps still worked but not to perfection.... Today I get a letter for Des Moines saying that I should check everything under operations because 25 points will be deducted for anything found wrong,,, so its an all or nothing then???????
The letter used a 'paraphrase'... Each line item in Operations has a specificed number of points associated with it. The letter PRESUMES a 25-point deduction for a given car failing all aspects of a given Operations line item.
Yes, partial deductions are allowed at any level of meet based on the judge's discretion for cars that fail some but not all of the aspects of a given line item. With the later era cars being more complicated, there are typically more consideration aspects to a given line item than there are for earlier Corvettes.
But, if one shoots for Top Flight, isn't it REASONABLE to expect a ZERO deduction outcome during Operations? This is an area where the owner's attention to detail/due diligence is readily evident...- Top

Re: Question regarding top flight judging.
Operations is/should be different from a PV. As long as something operates it should not receive deductions for Ops check. For PV, it should operate as it did new, i.e. horns..ops they blow but sound like a dying cow..OK, but PV they must sound like they did when new.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Question regarding top flight judging.
I found the chapter judging a little tougher than regional. My thought on that was they wanted all of us to be well prepared before we moved on to regional. Anyhow they all did a great job in my opinion and I really appreciate all they do. Tom Stanton #41491- Top
