Somewhat later build date (7/13) but same configuration (300HP, powerglide). The date on the mounting flange is 5-25-66. This clutch was rebuild by Fred Oliva about 6-7 years ago.

Your engine could have been equipped with either a Schwitzer, or an Eaton type fan clutch. Jeff's photo shows the Schwitzer type. Attached, find photo of a restored original Eaton fan clutch.

"CJ" stamp signifies SBC, and "CK" stamp signifies BBC. This stamp should appear on either type of clutch.

Most, but not all Schwitzer clutches had their date codes stamped into the approximately 1/4" thick edge of the mounting flange. Schwitzer date stamps are of the format: "MM . DD . YY" and is followed by "SC". According to Fred Oliva, the date stamp began appearing on Eaton clutches some time in 1966, so yours should probably have the date stamp as well as the "CJ" signifier. I do not believe that judges strictly adhere to any specific policy on the Eaton date stamp advent, so it is safe to say that you would not go wrong in having a restored clutch date coded. As you can see from the attached, the clutch is coded (D 7 F), which is April 7, 1965..........a point in time apparently before Eatons were date stamped.

      1st character: A - L = Jan - Dec
2nd character: Day of the month
      3rd character: A - I = 1960 - 1969

Both Eaton and Schwitzer clutches were produced in both long and short shaft versions. Long shaft clutches were used with SBC, and short shaft with BBC.

At least one had the date stamped into the back of the flange.

The 1966 clutch made by the Schwitzer company (bar strip on front) had a date code stamped on the edge of the flange. My original clutch is stamped "SC 1 26 66" (January 26, 1966). I believe the Schwitzer clutches made in 1964 and prior were not date coded.

Here's the original Schwitzer clutch off my 65 that was built 4-10-65. As you can see, it was stamped on the back side of the flange, so not ALL of them were stamped on the edge.
