    69 Poa Valve

    Guys,
I am still restoring the A/C system on my 69 350. I can not find any reference to the appearance of the factory POA valve other than the TIM which says that a stamp may be visible. I have my original here but I can not determine what finish it had originally. It may have been cad plated. Does anyone know what the correct finish might be for this part.

Additionally, I am replacing the condenser which unfortunately was not with the car when I bought it. I have looked at every book including the Bizzoco book and can find no photos of that installation. The master parts breakdown looks different than what I have. Is there any chance that someone might have some photos of this installation. I am using a reproduction condenser so I'm sure that is part ot the problem. Some books mention mounting pads or rubber anti shock pads. I can find no listing for that in the parts book. Hopefully if someone out there has a 69 AC SB car I would really appreciate any feed back on this.
Thanks in advance...I really appreciate the help!

    Brad,

I would bet there are drawings -- usually, but not always quite accurate, in the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual). They will beat pictures any day of the week. That should show the rubber mounts for the condenser -- but it will not help you with finishes. It will also show you the configuration of most, if not all of the C60 components. You are fortunate in having the small block because that is described in the AIM as the base unit and is better illustrated than the large motor variation.

Not owning a Corvette with C60 I am at a disadvantage, but I would expect the POA to be natural (un-plated, un-painted and un-polished) aluminum. The condenser is painted black -- the sheen tending toward glossy, but not quite full gloss.

      Thanks Terry,
I do have the assembly manual but it doesn't show any rubber mounts for the condenser but they are discussed in every assembly repair manual I read. I suppose the 69 just didn't use them. I appreciate the help. I have the finishes down for just about everything, its just the POA valve I can't find. Mine looks like it might have been gold cad.
      Thanks for your help!

POA was flash cad/zinc plated STEEL. The middle flange area was welded during assembly and then painted with some type of zinc covering to minimize rust.

Many POA that have been in service awhile will show exterior light rust. They are always wet from condensation during AC operation which promotes the rusting.

For pictures, go to E-bay and search under "poa valve". Or go to Classic Auto Air website and look at the pictures of their rebuilt/repaired units.

Originally they were also date stamped with blue or black ink.
