The question is: "if that is true, then is there any advantage to running such elevated oil temperatures"?

I guess you wouldn't have too much trouble with water in your oil at those temperatures, but I wouldn't want to be running that hot in an older car which wasn't designed to handle that much heat. I wonder what it would do to oil filters which have glued on end caps or plastic parts.
