    Ray, I'll defer to others who have far more expertise (regarding Vettes and Camaros) than me. But it looks like a replacement POP issued to a subsequent owner within the original warranty period, and that's why you see the owner's name and address embossed on the plate.

        Ray, I'm not sure, but it was either done by the dealer or sent back to GM. This thread is somewhat helpful:

          There was a procedure to request a new plate when the warranty was transfered to a new owner

            Thanks Pat And Dick;

            Don't know why my pea brain couldn't locate the previous archive.

            Now that I read the responses to my original question, shards of memory return. At least I want to remember them as the "good old days".

            A simpler time, for sure.

            Thanks again.

              Here's the Chevrolet format for "subsequent owner" P-O-P's; they were requested by the dealer from Central Office, and were mailed directly to the owner.

                Interesting thread. Mine says 34 miles, 6-69. Car build date 4-7-69. Thought it was the original owner POP, evidently there was somebody else? Or does that mean the dealer drove it 34 miles as a demo?

                  RIGHT ON! And, since we're talking about a car from the '69 era, the warranty transfer was rather common on those cars originally purchased with the optional 5 Year/50K Mile warranty...

                  That was back when GM learned the hard way what it really cost to compete with Chrysler's 5/50 power train warranty!

                    Dennis -

                    Quoting from Zone Bulletin #44, 2/13/68, subject Subsequent Owner Protect-O-Plates:

                    "Demonstrators or company cars owned either by a Chevrolet dealer or by GM Divisions or subsidiaries are considered to be in the hands of the First Warranted Owner when in such service."

                    That means that when that car was sold, the dealer had to apply for a Subsequent Owner P-O-P to transfer the warranty to the retail purchaser.

                      Thanks John...that about clears it up. I used the P-O-P to find the original owner's 51 year old son last fall. My car's provenance appears to still be intact.

                        Hello Dennis;
                        Can't read the POP.
                        How Does the milage show on the plate?

                        Thanks.

                          Re: POP expert(s) help ?

                          My plate is reverse printed of course and I didn't bother to enlarge or reverse it. According to John's format posted above, the mileage is the number imprinted in the center of the bottom row. Re-reading his post, mine shows 034 which is in hundreds, so my warranty was transferred at 3400 miles I guess. That would be a lot of miles for a demo.

                            Hello Dennis;
                            Thanks for explaining your plate.
                            If memory serves, at the dealer at which I worked, we had to stop driving demos at 3000 miles. The dealers son got to drive the cool demo vehicles.
                            Personally, I would buy "Brass Hat" cars for my family. The GM employees would order them to my specs, drive them until they qualified(don't remember if that was time or milage or a combination), and then turn them over to my dealer. If memory is accurate I got quite a nice additional discount. Tried to find some paperwork from the '60s & 70s at this writing, but not much was saved.
                            Thanks again for your help.
