    1954 Gas tank source?

Inside my fuel tank is some significant rust and scaling. After searching the previous posts on various gas tank restorations it seems like replacing the tank (no one can see it anyway) is a lot more popular than dealing with continuous issues like junk getting in the fuel lines even after cleaning and resealing with some of the popular restoration kits.

I searched the suppliers and haven't found a source for a 1954. Quantra and others seem to start production with model year 1956 and up. Anyone have a source? Original looking in staniless would be nice if I don't have to sell my house to pay for it!

    Thanks!

I don't know of a source for the 53-55 gas tank. However, I think you'll find the following outfit can do a good job of repairing and restoring your existing tank. After their restoration, I think the tank will last longer than you (or, even the next few owners) are ever going to need it.
see post #5 below for web-link

A 56 tank slides right into place. I used one until I found the proper tank. A 56 tank also has baffles and helps with the accuracy of the gauge.

Actually, I blew it on the web link. It should have been www.gas-tank.com. I added an "s" to the end of "tank" and that gets you to a "non-specific" web page. I have corrected it in the above post.

Wow...great information on the web page. The baffled later tank might be an option, too. Just need to check the venting.

I actually looked in the latest Corvette Central catalog and they show one for the 53-55 for $199. At that price it might be a no brainer. Grossmueller's has a stainless version for $770.

Joe....Thanks for the updated link.....I have updated my saved tickle file for future resto problems/oportunities.

Doing a body off is a long process....and the tank comes later.
