Re: c2 327 - 350 hp or 365 hp for maximum performance
Bernard,
As bill stated, not a much difference in street applications. I believe the L79 (350hp) had slightly higher torque at a little lower RPM. The major difference was the dependability with less maintenance (hydraulic lifters) with the 350 horsepower motor. I think the 350 hp midyear cars are very desirable today.

Re: c2 327 - 350 hp or 365 hp for maximum performance
I have an L-79 350 hp engine and recently adjusted the hydraulic lifters according to the '67 shop manual. I followed the directions to the letter. About how often should hydraulic lifters be adjusted? Thanks, PT- Top

Re: c2 327 - 350 hp or 365 hp for maximum performance
Boy I don't know about you guys but when you get above 6 grand on the L-76 it just puts a big smile on my face as well as planting my backside in the seat. I think a L-79 is one of the best drivers but if you like winding a motor over redline then go for the L-76.
(DISCLAIMER::: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME AS AN ORIGINAL MOTOR L-76 IS HARD TO COME BY)
Seriously would you rather have a 70 camaro with a plane jane 350 or a Z-28 with a L-T1.
I'm just of the old addage bigger or more is better.

Take that 350hp car with 370 rear and put a wide ratio trans and that's a great street machine.- Top

This question is definitely a personal preference. If you do not mind adjusting valves and you like the higher rpm range then the 365 hp engine is for you. If you do not like to adjust valves and not a high rpm guy then the 350 hp engine is for you. To me a solid lifter engine with 4:11 gears and a close ratio trans is the way to fly.- Top

Then there is an L-76 with close ratio and 3.36 (or 3.08) final (oh, did I mention mine is a 340 hp 63). I can't begin to tell you how many 64 -67's it has put away. Talk about high winding!

Re: c2 327 - 350 hp or 365 hp for maximum performance
Had a new 67 L79 with a wide 4 speed and 3.36 rear, that had a timing problem and needed a valve job at 50,000 miles. Did the valve job and put in the 365 cam with a set of headers and original exhuast. The L79 I dont think ever ran to capacity due to the timing issue, but the 365 would put you back in your seat a 6000rpm and go all the way to 7000rpm. The L79 cam would loose power at about 5600rpm and be all done at 5800rpm.
I use to check the lash on the solid lifter once a year and very seldom would any of the lifters need lash adjustment. I ran that car with the solids till 1972, getting 15-17 mpg on the highway and putting 118,000 miles on the odometer. I traded it in on the 72 that I still own.
My vote would be the 365.

I guess i agree with everyone ,i have owned one 350 and one 365 and i have been in the mood for both of them as far as the manners of the engine and love them both, can't go wrong 350 or 365 just depends on where you want the power that day......=
