    1965 voltage regulator operating

in the process of connecting all the wiring to all components
    and checking there operation.

while connection the battery and turning the ignition to on all works well,
but when i turn the key to the off position i hear the voltage regulator

here a short movie of the voltage regulator operationg one of the relay's
when turning the ignition to off (2x)

    is this normal/acceptable/harmfull ?
(the complete wiring harnas is new)

    thanks Sander,

I'm not sure what you're doing, amigo, but I'll take a wild arse guess... You're trying to verify the electrical system components WITHOUT installing them properly...

What does UJ mean by that? Flip your AIM book to UPC 12, Sheet A8 and note View A showing the installation of the horn relay. Observe there are TWO ground wires going to it with the second one tagged with the note 'See UPC 6'.

Now, flip your AIM book to UPC 6, Sheet B4 and you'll see the second ground wire makes a daisy chain from the horn relay's case ground to the engine harness over to the case of the Voltage regulator to tie it fully into the car's electrical system.

When I watch your U-Tube video, I see the V-Reg being held in a human hand with only its harmonica connector attached. Guess I'm missing how you're properly emulating the correct electrical working environment for the voltage regulator...

Yeah, Sander, where is the ground?

        Re: 1965 voltage regulator operating

ahh me stupid i expected something like this would be the case
i hooked up the ground wire to the horn relay but it makes sense it should go with the voltage regulator on the innerfender

maybe its because i am a 63 guy because on 63 its located on the rad support .

        Thank you UJ

        Sander,

Happy to help, brother! Yes, there is a 'plumbing' difference in the electrical system on mid-year cars and that resulted from the relocation of the V-Reg and the advent of mounting it via Well Nuts. The rubber wells resulted in electrical isolation of the regulator's case, hence the need for a discrete ground wire...
