Convertible tops

Convertible tops -- Is there a good way to clean and freshen up a black top? Is there any cosmetic dressing one could use after a good soap and water cleaning?

Mine is getting a little faded particularly where the top bows are.

If it is the original I'd say it's time for a new one. That aside it would depend on what it's made of. I'd check with Mother's or Meguiars' web sites if you don't get a good answer here. They both have customer hot lines.

I use RaggTopp products to clean and condition my Haartz canvas top. They work very well but I doubt they can correct fading.

For the cleaning step on my top installed in summer '65 I have always used mild car wash and a brush keeping the top wet and using gentle brush strokes each time I wash the car. I rarely use a dressing.

I assume you have a vinyl top like mine...I use Meguiar's Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner.
