Reading window dates 72 coupe

When looking at window dates ,are the windows dated the same order, month first and year second, and does this apply to all windows .it seems the rear window is read from the outside and the side windows are rear from the inside.

Jerome, the month and years date codes are in JM , just need to know is it the month the first letter and year the second letter. and is that how the dating is done on all windows?

Hi Edward,
The four original pieces of glass on my md-January built 71 are all coded VT. The windshield and side windows read from the inside and the rear window read from the outside.
The V being December and the T being 1970.
I'd think you'd need to be seeing an N or a Y for your year code.

Typically windows are dated with alphabetic code month/year. I think you may find some instances where there are variations such as some soft top rear PLEXIGLAS OR PLASTIC windows, but for the most part the alpha code in the month/ year format is what you find, regardless of which side of the glass you read from. The pocket spec guide is also an excellent source for glass dating and identification of many other components, in a quick easy to navigate pocket format.

Alan, Thanks for your response, my side windows are dated exact as the month the car was produced , but my rear window is dated (yn) instead of (ny) the strange thing is I have a frenid with a 72 dated with in a few weeks of my car, and his car has the same dated window (YN) nov. 71

I know what your going to say, but it just seems strange, that two 72 cars with the same rear windows with the same dates.

I'm used to seeing the month/year format. YN is October 1971. The Judging Guide allows up to 12 months prior on Glass. You should be fine. Typically the windshield and side glass are read from the inside and the coupe rear window is read from the outside.

We typically see a large date variance in the coupe rear window. There weren't that many convertibles, so who knows?

Thanks guys I wasn't sure this if rear window could be that far off. It is strange that May 5 car and April 19 car have the same coded rear window.

They bought a big batch of coupe rear windows, or you guys both got the back of the stack.
