    69 Expansion Valve Putty

    Hey guys,
I'm sure this has been hashed over many times, so I apologize for the duplicity but I do really appreciate your help. I am installing a new evaparator (Old Air Products repro) and expansion valve. The factory used a black putty like substance to encapsulate the expansion valve tube to the upper evaparator tube. Any idea where this stuff might be available today? The typical supply houses do not carry it. Its probably available at a body shop supply store, but I hoped someone might know what its called and might even have a part number for it.

Next question: I'm replacing both heater hoses and not having any luck locating the original design hose. I know this has been discussed at length and I am familiar with the look and design of the hose. Dr. Rebuild used to have it and still has it in his catalog but no longer stocks it. I ordered the so-called correct hoses from C/C and they are identical except they have no ridges on them. Have any of you had recent luck locating the correct hoses?
    Thanks again,
    Brad Hood

    Brad:

Old Air Products sells what you want #21-0617. This should be correct.

I think either LICS or DR REBUILD also sells, but not certain anymore.

The other thing many folks use is the black 3M Strip Caulk. This is available at most auto body and paint supply houses. I provided the exact part number a few days ago to someone else on the forum. You can search for it, or let me know and I will find the part number again and re-post. Many folks use this for the insulation, but I believe the #21-0617 is more factory correct.

      Brad -

The tape I used is Car Quest #209491, big roll, and looks good when installed. The sliced style is available but the look is not correct.
The C2's use ribbed hoses; I used a '68 hose on my '66 because it didn't have ribs but has the GM logo. Paragon let me compare the hoses. Good luck.

Or try NAPA TEM #209491. Probably same as Car Quest. $21.49 for a lifetime supply (very large roll, as Mark stated).

Any A/C parts house has the right stuff & it's a rubberized sticky cork on a roll. Even found it at H D & Lowes.
