    C2 Steering Box

I have the sector shaft out of the steering box on my 63 because I want to inspect clean and lube. What is the best tool to remove the locking nut that holds the worm shaft without destroying it.

The ball nut inside moves freely so I have not decided how far I am going to go after taking the worm shaft out of the box. There was a slight hard spot when turning the assembled gear in one direction just off center so I guess it's a good idea to check run out of the sector shaft as this would give indicition of damage from prior collision.

The sector shaft looks good to my eyes, not much grease left though.

    All comments are appreciated..

Timothy, a hammer and punch for the lock ring- the're not that tight.
The steering box will have a tight spot on-center,that's normal.
    Cheers, Graeme.

Carefully inspect the recirculating ball nut for pitting within the ball channel. I have successfully used a Dremel tool to "feather" any irregularities in this channel, which will re-establish a smooth flow of the balls within the nut. It's a good idea to install new balls while you have it apart.
