Welding crack in 58 FI exhaust manifold

Is there a good shop for welding a crack in a 58 FI exhaust manifold? Is it worth doing?
    Thanks

Any shop that rebuilds/repairs engine blocks can do it. The key is pre-heating before welding.

John, in the distant past I had an aircraft shop weld an exhaust manifold and they did a very good job. There should be at least on one near any large city.

            Good Luck,

            Steve

John, most proficient welders can weld cast iron, the problem is that they use stainless steel rod or braze it. Neither process will pass muster on the judging field and may produce more cracking when used. The process that I have only seen the results of, requires preheating the part to over 900 degrees f, welding, preheating again, and repeating the process until the weld is completed using cast iron rod. The only people that I know of to use this process are located at www.jaylenogarage.com or you may find a welding service specialising in this work in Hemmings Magazine. Finally, I have only heard of this processed used on very rare (also expensive) parts, and almost always heads or blocks.
