    What Tach cable to use?

I have a 62 dual point tachometer drive distributor on the CS block and a 60 HI HP tachometer.. I have now changed out three 62 tach cables now.. what am i doing wrong?

Should I be using a different tach cable?

Maybe I am using the wrong cable lube?

    Appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks
    Joe

    Joe,
Does the tachometer seem to function properly when you install the "new cable"? How exactly is the cable failing?

Lynn, the cable snaps.. there is a slight bend between the distributor and the firewall, I would not think its the cause..
      Any thoughts?

        Joe,
I am surprised you have not received any other thoughts, suggestions, or opinions. When you say slight bend, makes me think that could be the problem. I would think that upon exit from the firewall there should be very little if any "bending" of the cable if the distributor is positioned correctly. I am not too familiar with the set up on the 62. Any one else have any ideas??

Also surprised that there aren't more suggestions and comments, but here is my 2 cents for what it's worth since I don't know the C1 setup...

I would disconnect the cable at the distributor side only and turn the cable by hand. I would expect little resistance to being about the turn it, i.e. turn fairly freely. If it is hard to turn by hand, this would tell me that something is making the cable work too hard and could be causing the break. If hard to turn you could then try to turn the tach itself assuming you can get access which should isolate whether the problem is in the cable or tach unit itself. My guess is the tach needs some work if you've gotten into replacing a couple cables now.
