    1964 Corvette steering column

Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a screw or bolt on the side, in the rear, of the steering column housing, opposite the blinker; to secure the housing? Hope I explained this correctly.

Only on 63 columns, not 64, check the 64 AIM for details.

Drove the 64 over 5000 miles to three Regionals and the San Jose National, one dust storm and 40 lbs of bugs!

The screw hole was for the "wedge", which was only used in 1963 to secure the bowl; the wedge was eliminated for 1964, but they didn't modify the mold for the bowl and left the screw hole in it. The hole is there, but it isn't used.

          John,
Do you know id there is a way to tighten the bowl? It apprears to be a little loose and wiggles?

The bowl is secured to the column jacket by a circular stamped sheet metal retainer with slots that engage the tabs at the top end of the jacket; the screws that attach the turn signal switch secure the retainer to the inside of the bowl. Make sure none of the three tabs are broken off.

See your Assembly Manual, UPC 12, sheet C1.00 - it shows the installation.
