    63 water pump, judging manual

I was looking at the judging manual and it states that the correct casting#s, for the water pump, for a base engine, 63", is 3782608 and the L76,L84 engines used an undated pump# 3872609, (early models).
Is the hi horse, pump number, correct?
    I have a pump casting# 3782609, undated. The 7 and 8 are reversed.Is the JM incorrect, a typo perhaps?
    Thanks, John

I don't have that copy because I bought the 4th edition, but it is a typo. Coupled with that, however, is the feeling by some that the correct high performance pump is casting 3859326.

      John, Loren,

This was beat to death a few months ago.. The opinion of most is the 609 is correct for 62-63 than mixed with part# 3839175 than approx Nov 64 the 326 pump started in production.

The bypass boss is the small 1/2 tapping with the difference in pumps being the relief machined into the boss where the bypass hole is located for pulley clearance.

If you look in archives the post (I think) is in late 2009.

John, Stay with the 609 water pump in your 63. When the rebuild engine for my 63 was on the stand waiting to go into the chassis a rebuilt 326 was removed and the correct 609(undated) installed. But I do have a mistake on the pump of my 63. The backing plate is wrong.
Research the correct backing plate & hardware. IT's been covered in a ton of posts but searching here is sometimes difficult. JD

Today I saw an April 63 L84 car that is very, very original. It has pump 3859326. Water pumps are notoriously short lived, so I suppose it could have been changed at some point, but the owner didn't think so.
