I have a 62 327, 250hp. The water pump (generic) started leaking from around the gaskets on both sides and the weep hole. I am taking off the motor mount bracket and cleaning all the parts. Some of the bolts had a perma gasket material on them. I checked the bolt holes to see if they breached the block in some way to let water through. They all bottom out and I took a mirror and clothes hanger and bent the end of the hanger to see if maybe somewhere in the hole there was a breach. There are none. Is the perma gasket necessary or recommended in the bolt holes? What can I do to prevent this from happening again? I bought a new correct pump from Bill Mock.
Also the upper bolt on the passenger side of the pump that holds the generator bracket has approx. 2" hexagon with threads on both ends and is dark gray in color. Is it suppose to be this color or is it suppose to be orange?
All input is welcomed and I thank you in advance for your help. Joe
