I'm getting ready for a game of musical Oil Pans and need some input on a good gasket set to use that best suits an original gasket. Should it be cork? Or, does it make any difference? Cars involved are '60 290 hp, 66 300 hp and 62 non stock block hi perf ( 67 327 ).

Re: C1 Oil Pan Gasket Recomendations
David, the 66/67 gaskets is a easy choice, I perfer the Fel Pro perma dry gasket, its 1 piece gasket set. has excellent sealing.( this gasket will not pass NCRS judges due to gasket material).
The 60/62 I think your stuck with the cork/rubber gaskets, Napa auto parts stores gaskets are made by victor and have the same sealing as the factory gaskets.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C1 Oil Pan Gasket Recomendations
Dennis, I haven't brought a C-1 one piece gasket, Good to know, remember to use a little RTV sealant at the 4 cornors of the gasket. Those areas tend to leak without the sealant.(timing cover/ rear main cap). Make sure that the oil pan bolts were not over torqued the last time the gasket was replaced, they tend to bend the tin pan, if so put on a flat surface and lightly tap them flat.Last edited by Edward J.; May 4, 2010, 06:58 PM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C1 Oil Pan Gasket Recomendations
Ed,
Thanks for the tips. I saw the note about the sealant in the instruction sheet that came with the gasket. I would have used some RTV in those locations anyway.
It will be the first time I am using this gasket & I still can't get over how well it is made. I really like the reinforcement through the bolt holes.

The same Fel-Pro 1 piece gasket will work for all 1957-74 small blocks as long as they have the original oil pan. If they have a GM SERVICE pan obtained after about 1976, then they require the Fel-Pro 1 piece gasket used for 1975-79 pans.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C1 Oil Pan Gasket Recomendations
Thanks guys, one of the pans is a later replacement from GM, so Joe's info is really beneficial. I don't want it to leak but am a bit of a purist and would love for it to appear as the general made it. Thanks for all of your help. Stop by this week end and lend a hand.David Dawdy- Top
