Best solution to scrub interior parts with

    Guys,

What is the best solution to try and clean interior parts with? I'm cleaning the interior on my 69 for the resto and don't want to have to paint everything, but the stuff is so dirty I don't know if it will ever come clean. Any suggestions?

I used crystal simple green in hot water, 120-130* with a soft brush. It worked ok to remove all the old gummy crap on the plastic parts.

Just make sure that if you are cleaning anything with a fiber or cardboard backing, do not get the backing wet.

I've used Simple Green but when working on the interior of the orange 72 last winter I used this:

It worked better for me than Simple Green, and with a soft head toothbrush it was amazing how clean the parts became.

On the part below the right hand side was cleaned, the left hand side is dirty. Other pictures available for the contrast if needed.

Would you have used Simple Green if it had been a green car instead of an orange one?

            Wow!

Now I know why this one worked better!

I haven't used it on a Corvette interior specifically, but SEM's Vinyl Prep solution seems to be a wonderful vinyl cleaner. I originally bought some to do exactly what its for, to clean vinyl before repainting, but I was rather impressed with how nice some of the vinyl parts were just after using the SEM Prep. They also seemed to regain at least some of the pliability that was hardened with age. I have discovered however, that there are some soft vinyl parts that aren't really vinyl and would dissolve with the SEM chemical so test an inconspicuous spot first on each different piece. And I would only try this stuff after trying some of the less noxious cleaners already suggested.

Nobody else ever recommends it, but the thing I use for cleaning just about anything is Armor All Multi-Purpose Auto Cleaner. It contains cationic surfactants, whatever that is. Good luck finding it though.
