I pulled the engine and cast iron powerglide transmission yesterday and made some not so exciting discoveries.
First, the Mikey Mouse ear on the tranny bellhousing where the starter is located was broken. It fell off as I pulled the tranny. I can get a welder to fix it but is this the right way to go? The bellhousing and tranny are dated within one day of each other so I'd hate to split them up.
Second, the torque converter has 18 bolts. Roy's video says the 1955 has 33 bolts and that 18 bolts is a passenger car torque converter. Just curios if the same holds true for 1954's? With the car assembled you can't see it. Is there a difference between the 18 bolt compared to the 33 bolt Corvette converter that should concern me?
Third, it has a solid flex plate. Roy's video shows a spoked flex plat. Which is right for a '54? Am I getting too anal?
Thanks!
Randy
