Reinforcement Plate for Shoulder Harness Belt

Need help with the location of the reinforcement plates for shoulder belts for my '68. I'm looking at UPC 1 B2 in the AIM and I cannot tell if the reinforcement plate is located outside or inside the car. For a stronger attachment I would think on the outside of the wheel well but in searching the archives and looking at the AIM it looks to be attached on the inside of the wheel well just under the carpet.

I should have already done this but when I pull back the carpet at the wheel well, will there be a plug to take out for the bolt attachment so I will be able to line up the reinforcement plate in the correct position or will I have to guess where it goes along the wheel well?

    Thanks,

I'll take a guess although I have a 1974. The RPO codes (A85) are the same for both years so perhaps these comments are relevant.

The plate should already be there (on the outside) and yes there is a rubber plug.

I used an awl to minimize damage to the carpet.

      Terry,
The reinforcement plates for the shoulder harness definitely goes on the OUTSIDE of the car in the wheel well area.

Re: Reinforcement Plate for Shoulder Harness Belt

Here is the follow up to the earlier question I had. Even though only 350 1968 Corvette Convertibles had the optional shoulder belts (they were standard in coupes) the reinforcement plate for the shoulder belt was installed in all the '68 convertibles too. After reading in the archives that the plate was there for '67's optional shoulder belts and looking at Paul's pictures, I had a better idea of where to look for the plugs to place the attaching bolts for shoulder harnesses. Sure enough, after pulling back the carpet and the padding, I was able to locate the rivets that attached the plate and then found the white plastic plug that seal the hole for both sides. I was able to put the bolts in the holes and tighten up the shoulder belts. Everything is working great. Thanks again Paul and Lynn and those who posted earlier in the archives.
