    58 Horns

Just got Horns from R. G., look great sound great, with power running to each seperatly, paint has been scraped off brackets for good connection, but low note does not work when all hooked up, checked all grounds and seem to be fine, what next, is there a power drop of sorts to Pass side that would keep from working? Thank you soooo much, Brad.

    Re: 58 Horns

Brad, You said ".....sound great". Does that mean they both worked on a "bench test" hooked to a battery before you installed them?

If so, it sounds like you have a bad ground connection to the horn, or the feed wire going to it from the drivers side pigtail is broken.

You could take a battery with jumpers and connect directly to the mounted suspect horn(disconnect the feed terminal on it first), and see if it works. If not, it would tell me you have a defective horn. Listen carefully when you try it as you may hear a slight clicking sound when you jumper it, and may see it spark at the + terminal, a indication there is current applied.

Rich, Yes both horns work fine on bench and pass. side works fine when you jump to it, (Both are installed) there is spark at second horn, both bracketes have been cleaned of paint for contact, I can hear horn barely trying to work, it's like not enough power getting to that side, what other grounds would I need to check, voltage reg upeed? wiring is only 10 years old ? Brad.

Brad, I suspect the ground to the Pass side horn is either unconnected or broken. It's a separate black wire in the headlight harness with a large ring terminal which goes under the mount bolt for the horn. If that's there and clean contact, then the wire is broken in the harness.....or, the hot lead(also black wire!) wire going to the horn terminal is broken between the Drivers side and Passenger side.

If you have a test light or voltmeter, connect it to the wires for the suspect wires and see if it's hot when you hit the horn button. You can use a ohm meter to test ground between engine and the big terminal ground as a check also.

Late replay but, took low note out and turned adjustment screw clockwise 1/8 turn and BINGO, both horns work great now, also horn button and wheel was very sluggish, took off button and pulled out plastic gismo and popped off cap and stretched spring out 1/4 longer whick gave arm and shaft a constant contact for better juice transfer.
